  • As a rule of thumb, it's a good idea to have chimneys cleaned at least once a year. Usually before cold weather sets in.

To Renovate, Or Not To Renovate

Even more front porchThat’s the burning question that’s in my entire family’s mind about my house. Me, I have a hard time thinking about whether or not I want to live in construction dust for a few months. Everyone else thinks it’s time to build. My house is built on a hill and the crawl space underneath my house is large enough to accommodate a couple more rooms under the house. My mom didn’t know that until recently, and now she’s pushing for us to build. She’s the daughter of a general contractor, so of course she likes that sort of thing.

I’m just not so sure. With the loan market struggling and all of us worried about the economy and our jobs, I worry about taking out another loan on the house. Perhaps now would be a good time to add on, with general contractors low on work- we might be able to get an amazing deal. But I’m still worried.

We have 3 bedrooms and 3 kids, so 2 of them have to share a room. The good thing about doing renovations would be to have the extra space for them. The thing is, I don’t know that I want to stay in my house after my son graduates from high school in 3 and a half years. Would the construction be worth it? I just don’t know.
