    Before You Dig Call 811

    Backhoe
It is a known fact that when any homeowner or expert for that matter begins any excavation project, the underground cable wires and utility lines need to be marked.  Normally this involves calling your local one-call center and having them send out someone to mark and or stake the yard as to where all those lines, cables and pipes lie. But knowing where to call or where to find the number to call almost makes the project more of a hassle as opposed to the excitement that a home improvement project should bring.

No more worries, according to Matt Navitsky of the Common Ground Alliance, there is a new nationwide phone number that has been established by the FCC to protect those underground utilities. Effective May 1st. the homeowners can call if they have a DIY project and any professional excavator can ring up 811 from anywhere in the country to  reach their local call center and schedule a time for them to come out.

Smart digging means calling 811 before you start. This insures unexpected expenses due to cut pipes, mutilated wires and electric mishaps.
